But Clooney’s shoutout has made the 1980s hair appliance hot again. The device is a hair trimmer that hooks up to a vacuum cleaner. It’a popularity peaked during the 1980s, but it’s now making a comeback. With so many barbers and hair salons closed during the pandemic, people are turning to the Flowbee to cut their own hai

In today’s world, accessibility, ease of use, and saving money are more important than ever—especially for individuals with disabilities who might be facing financial challenges. One such solution that has gained popularity over the years is the Flowbee Haircutting System. This unique tool offers an easy, safe, and efficient way to cut hair at home, providing both convenience and significant cost savings. The Flowbee is particularly helpful for people with disabilities who may find traditional salon visits difficult or expensive. In a time when healthcare costs and social services can be uncertain, especially with changing policies like those introduced during Donald Trump’s presidency, the Flowbee offers a practical alternative.

What is the Flowbee?

The Flowbee is a vacuum-powered hair cutting system that was invented in 1986 by Rick Hunts. It's designed to be easy to use, even for those with little to no experience in cutting hair. The system uses a vacuum to pull the hair into a set of adjustable blades, which trim the hair to the desired length. The vacuum function also helps keep hair from falling on the floor, making cleanup a breeze.

A Great Solution for People with Disabilities

For individuals with disabilities, especially those who have limited mobility, visiting a hair salon can be a challenging task. The process of scheduling appointments, traveling to and from the salon, and spending time in the chair can be physically demanding. The Flowbee eliminates the need for frequent salon visits and allows individuals to cut their hair comfortably at home.

The design of the Flowbee makes it accessible for people with a variety of disabilities. For instance, individuals with limited mobility or those who may have difficulty holding traditional scissors can use the Flowbee with ease. The vacuum component helps hold the hair in place, so there's less need for precise handling or intricate movements. This can make it a fantastic option for people with conditions such as arthritis or limited hand dexterity, where using scissors or clippers might be painful or awkward.

The Flowbee also offers a level of independence that’s empowering for those who may depend on others for assistance in many areas of life. Being able to cut your hair without needing to schedule an appointment or rely on someone else for help is an enormous benefit.

A Way to Save Money

The Flowbee provides substantial savings for people who might otherwise struggle to afford regular salon visits. For individuals on a fixed income, such as those receiving Social Security or disability benefits, the cost of maintaining a haircut routine at a salon can add up quickly. Some people may even lose access to government assistance programs, like Medicare, under certain political administrations, making it even harder to cover everyday expenses like personal care.

By investing in a Flowbee, individuals can avoid the high costs of professional haircuts. The system pays for itself quickly, as it can be used for years with minimal maintenance. Plus, because it's easy to use, it eliminates the need for costly stylist appointments every few weeks. For those who may lose their Social Security benefits or other social services, the Flowbee is a financially viable option to continue self-care without sacrificing quality or convenience.

Conclusion

The Flowbee Haircutting System offers an incredible solution for individuals with disabilities and anyone looking to save money while maintaining their appearance. Its ease of use, accessibility, and long-term cost savings make it an ideal choice for many, particularly in uncertain financial times when the future of social services is unpredictable. Whether you're looking to regain independence in personal grooming or reduce your spending, the Flowbee can be an indispensable tool for people who want to keep their hair looking great without breaking the bank.

THIS IS FROM A LETTER MOM RECENTLY WROTE TO COMFORT DENTAL AND DR JOHN FRERICH

Dr. Rick A. Kushner is President, Founder, CEO and CFO of Comfort Dental.
Comfort Dental
2540 Kipling St.
Lakewood, CO 80215

Dr. Eric Boucher, Dentistry
Comfort Dental
6800 W Alameda Ave
Lakewood, CO 80226

Dr's Kushner and Boucher,
My first experience with Comfort Dental was YEARS ago at 2540 Kipling St

I had endured abuse and having been pushed from behind and impacting a wrought iron door with my head resulting in ALL my teeth being fractured

They ended up falling out in chunks, despite my telling them to just pull them out and give me dentures

Comfort Dental and Marshall Dental Excellence bring NO COMFORT

One begins to think dentists can't be trusted except the ones at University of Colorado School of Dental Medcine

They're the ones that once they saw me the surgeon immediately said, “Why the hell weren't these teeth pulled YEARS ago?” The teeth I'd been demanding Comfort Dental pull, but they refused

Having rotting teeth in one's body can lead to MANY health issues! Comfort Dental didn't care about that

For example gum disease, kidney disease, heart disease, endocarditis, blood poisoning, weakened immune system and tooth abscess

Toxins were being released into my body on a REGULAR BASIS and NOBODY at Comfort Dental cared. They just wanted to keep on working on my teeth for $$$$$

Why did I go back to them the 2nd time?

They were in my insurance carrier's 'Network' (UnitedHealthcare)

I will be writing to UnitedHealthcare to let them know of my experiences with Comfort Dental requesting they be removed from 'Network'

My recent experiences with Comfort Dental, AKA Dr Eric Boucher and his staff

Comfort Dental
November 25, 2019 – Appointment with them – my dentures were WHITE (THEY STILL ARE, INCLUDING THE GUM AREA)

From what we can ascertain, my caregiver put bleach in the glass I soak them in, because one day they were PERFECTLY fine and the next they weren't

7-24-21
My daughter had brought me in for an appointment

We were both under the impression that you were going to just talk to us about the potential cost of fixing my dentures, not actually go ahead and start the process.

The receptionist/lady that took us back to where people pay was all ready to start taking “Impressions for your (my) new dentures....send the bill to your insurance and see what they'll cover.”

We immediately stopped her, because I couldn't afford to fix them at this time. I don't have the funds to do that. I'm lucky to have $10 extra at the end of the month if I don't have medical appointments

I am LOW income, DISABLED and on SSI. My income is $1001.00 PER MONTH

We left immediately

Dr. Boucher called back a few days later and left a message apologizing, YET trying to convince me to come back so we could discuss the costs to replace my dentures, NOT THE IMPLANTS. They're PERFECTLY FINE!

April 24, 2024 – 4:04pm – they called me
April 24, 2024 – 5:29pm – I called them
April 30, 2024 – 12:30pm – appointment
We discussed my getting my dentures being replaced. He NEVER took any impressions nor did he mention replacing the implants. Why would he? They're prefectly secure.

May 21, 2024 – 3:26pm – I called them
May 21, 2024 – 4:50pm – called - “APPROVED
I was told, “EVERYTHING IS APPROVED
To me “EVERYTHING” includes the dentures. AGAIN, he didn't mention the implants

May 21, 2024 – 4:58pm – I called them
June 19. 2024 – 1:18pm – called me
June 19, 2024 – 1:40pm – I called them

June 20, 2024 – Appointment
A friend took me to appointment to discuss starting the replacement of my dentures. THAT is when he talked about replacing the dentures AND the implants

There was/is NOTHING wrong with the implants. The dentures were destroyed by what looks like bleach, or that's what Dr. Boucher said.

That's when he said, “It'll cost about $1,000 to replace the implants”

He knows I'm low income and on SSI. I live off the $1001.00 I make a month. My paying him $1,000 to replace the implants would leave me $1 to live off of that month!?!?

Again, he does a bait-and-switch

And he didn't care how much it would cost me and what financial straits it would leave me in

He tells me one thing and then changes it so I would end up paying $$$$$

That's what Comfort Dental at 2540 Kipling St., Lakewood, CO 80215 did to me too

Do you do that to EVERY customer or just those on low income and disabled?

I feel like I'm being taken advantage of

Having or not having teeth can mess with someone's self-esteem and health then to have a “doctor” intentionallly do what Comforte Dental has makes it even worse. Does Comfort Dental do this to all their patients or just the low income disabled ones?

If it is, I believe you should be REMOVED from the UnitedHealthcare Network

Back when I lived in Minnesota I went to

Dr John Frerich
Marshall Dental Excellence
1106 E College Drive
Marshall, MN 56258

He did the surgery for my dentures and implants. It took a LONG time and was VERY expensive

I couldn't afford them then either, but I got some help to cover the finances

I also spoke out about my story of abuse and how I was getting help on a National Podcast. It was also aired on a YouTube Channel by Matthew Lesko

How To Use The Internet To Pay For Your Dental Bills
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TywMbV0Wg0I (NONE of the domain names mentioned on the video are legit anymore)

Not one time did Dr Frerich thank me for doing the free advertising on a National broadcast

He also implanted 5 implants, but charged me for 6. I stood up to him for that and then “Out of the kindness of my heart...” he FINALLY refunded me the money that was paid for them

Then he started offering Botox at his practice and he kept INSISTING I get it

Forget the fact I'm low income

Botox is a drug made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It's the same toxin that causes a life-threatening type of food poisoning called botulism. Doctors use it in small doses to treat health problems, including: Temporary smoothing of facial wrinkles and improving your appearance.”

Right, someone with ACUTE allergies (I carry an EpiPen 24/7) is going to inject THAT into MY body. I have over 250 food, medication and environmental allergies as a result of a chemical exposure in 1995

And YES, EVERY dentist I've dealt with has known about these allergies

He took advantage of a disabled, low income individual

He claims to be “Christian” but he definitely didn't fit the definition of a “Christian” to me

In hindsight I should've looked at ALL their Google Reviews. Thank God I do now. I also write reviews

Sincerely,
C

Leaving rotting teeth untreated can lead to serious health issues, including:

Infection
A tooth abscess can develop from advanced tooth decay, causing a severe infection that can spread throughout the body. In rare cases, a tooth abscess can be fatal.

Gum disease
Gum disease can develop from untreated tooth decay, and can lead to tooth loss. Gum disease can also increase blood sugar levels for people with diabetes.

Heart disease
Plaque builds up on teeth that aren't cleaned regularly, and can eventually move into the heart. Research suggests a connection between oral bacteria and heart disease.

Meningitis
Bacteria from an untreated tooth infection can reach the brain, causing meningitis, a dangerous brain and spinal cord infection.

Blood poisoning
The toxic elements from rotting teeth can be swallowed along with saliva, and eventually get blended into the digestive system and the blood.

Respiratory issues
Bacteria from infected teeth and gums can be inhaled, which can cause respiratory issues. This is especially concerning for people with pre-existing respiratory conditions.

Weight loss
Pain from tooth decay can make it difficult to eat or chew, which can lead to weight loss or nutrition problems.

Tooth loss
Tooth decay can lead to tooth loss, which can affect your appearance, confidence, and self-esteem.
Early dental decay can be treated, but prevention is best.

Sidenote:
COMFORT DENTAL DIDN'T CARE ABOUT MY MOM'S HEALTH AND NEITHER DID DR FRERICH!

Your dentist should be your partner in achieving optimal oral health, not a source of harm or exploitation. Unfortunately, some dental practices prioritize profits over patient care, leaving patients vulnerable to serious health risks. For individuals with complex medical needs, such as severe allergies or compromised immune systems, these risks can be life-threatening.

One alarming scenario involves a dentist leaving decaying teeth untreated, performing bait-and-switch pricing tactics, and suggesting inappropriate procedures like Botox to a highly allergic patient. Let’s unpack why these actions are dangerous and explore what steps a patient can take to protect themselves.

The Dangers of Untreated Dental Decay
Leaving rotting teeth in a patient’s mouth is a serious issue. Decay can lead to infections, abscesses, and systemic health problems, including sepsis, which can be fatal. Untreated dental infections can also exacerbate underlying conditions, such as autoimmune disorders, by triggering widespread inflammation.

For patients with acute allergies, untreated decay heightens the risk of severe infections that may require medications they cannot tolerate. Additionally, rotting teeth contribute to bad breath, difficulty eating, and overall poor quality of life.

Bait-and-Switch Pricing
Bait-and-switch pricing erodes trust between patients and providers. A dentist who quotes one price and charges a significantly higher amount later is engaging in unethical practices. For patients managing limited budgets or living with fixed incomes, unexpected costs can cause financial strain and deter them from seeking necessary follow-up care.

Offering Dangerous Procedures to High-Risk Patients
Recommending elective cosmetic procedures like Botox to a patient with acute allergies demonstrates a concerning lack of medical awareness. For individuals with over 250 allergies due to chemical exposure, Botox injections can trigger severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Suggesting such procedures without conducting thorough medical reviews shows blatant disregard for patient safety.

How to Handle an Unethical Dentist
If you find yourself in this situation, taking action is crucial to safeguard your health and hold the provider accountable.

1. Seek a Second Opinion
Consult another dentist to assess the condition of your teeth and provide an unbiased treatment plan. Look for practices specializing in treating patients with complex medical needs or allergies.

2. Request a Detailed Breakdown of Costs
Before agreeing to any procedure, ask for a written treatment plan with an itemized cost breakdown. This minimizes the risk of surprise fees.

3. Report the Dentist
Unethical or dangerous practices should be reported to relevant authorities:
State Dental Board: File a complaint with your state’s dental licensing board. They can investigate professional misconduct and impose penalties.
American Dental Association (ADA): If the dentist is an ADA member, lodge a formal complaint.
Better Business Bureau (BBB): Report deceptive pricing practices to alert other potential patients.
Federal Trade Commission (FTC): If bait-and-switch pricing is involved, the FTC may investigate consumer fraud.

4. Document Everything
Keep records of all interactions, including emails, invoices, and treatment plans. These documents can be invaluable when filing complaints or pursuing legal action.

5. Consider Legal Action
If the dentist’s negligence or unethical behavior caused harm, consult an attorney to explore your legal options.

Your Health Comes First
Dental care is a vital component of overall health. If you encounter a dentist who jeopardizes your safety or exploits your trust, don’t hesitate to act. By advocating for yourself and utilizing available resources, you can protect your well-being and help ensure that others receive the quality care they deserve.

Rachel Maddow rounds up instances in which Donald Trump not only assures his supporters that if he is elected they won't have to vote in the future, but also that even for this 2024 election he does not need votes. Maddow posits that the reason Trump doesn't care about votes is that he intends to win by manipulating the administration of the voting tabulation.

With the recent election of a president proposing sweeping cutbacks to critical social programs like Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, SSDI, and SSI, millions of low-income individuals, including the elderly, disabled, and veterans, may face an uncertain financial future. For many, these benefits represent a lifeline, helping cover healthcare costs, daily living expenses, and essentials like food and housing. Potential reductions in these programs could have far-reaching consequences, making it essential to start preparing for what may lie ahead.

In this guide, we’ll explore practical steps for planning a budget and safeguarding financial stability as much as possible. We’ll also discuss the impacts these cuts could have on individuals’ lives and ways to adapt to potential changes.

Understanding the Potential Impacts

1. Healthcare Accessibility
Medicare and Medicaid are primary sources of healthcare for seniors, low-income families, and individuals with disabilities. Reductions in these programs could mean higher out-of-pocket costs for doctor visits, medications, surgeries, and essential medical equipment. For some, it might also mean losing access to certain healthcare services altogether, especially if providers stop accepting these programs due to lower reimbursement rates.

2. Financial Stability and Daily Living
Social Security, SSDI, and SSI provide monthly income that allows millions of recipients to afford food, housing, and other necessities. If these benefits are reduced or restructured, individuals might face challenges paying bills, staying in their homes, and affording groceries. Budgeting carefully and planning for emergencies will become even more critical.

3. Increased Dependence on Family or Community Resources
With reduced government assistance, there may be a greater need for support from family, friends, and community organizations. However, these sources of aid are often stretched thin, so finding alternative forms of assistance may be challenging.

Steps to Prepare Financially for Potential Cuts

1. Analyze Your Current Income and Expenses
Creating a detailed budget is the first step toward financial preparedness. Start by documenting all sources of income, including Social Security, SSDI, SSI, pension payments, and any other funds. Next, track your monthly expenses, categorizing them into essentials (like housing, utilities, and food) and non-essentials. This will help you identify where cuts could be made if necessary.

Consider Using Budgeting Apps: Apps like Mint or You Need a Budget (YNAB) can make it easier to keep track of spending and set spending limits in specific categories.
- Adjust for Future Reductions: If your benefits are cut, estimate how much you could lose monthly, and adjust your budget to accommodate this lower income.

2. Prioritize Essential Expenses
When planning your budget, prioritize essential expenses such as housing, food, utilities, healthcare, and transportation. While cutting non-essentials might be challenging, focusing on what’s absolutely necessary will help ensure that the essentials are covered.

- Reduce Utility Costs: Look for ways to lower utility bills, such as reducing heating/cooling use and switching to energy-efficient appliances. Some local organizations and utilities offer assistance or rebates for low-income individuals.
- Seek Lower-Cost Food Options: If you don’t already use them, look into food assistance programs like SNAP, local food pantries, and Meals on Wheels for seniors, which can help supplement your food budget.

3. Strengthen Your Emergency Fund
Building an emergency fund provides a financial cushion to handle unexpected expenses or loss of income. Even if your budget is already tight, try to set aside a small amount each month. This fund will be a valuable resource if your benefits are reduced.

- Start Small: Setting aside even $10-$20 a month can build up over time, and it’s better to start small than not at all.
- Automate Savings: If possible, set up automatic transfers to a separate savings account to make saving easier and more consistent.

4. Look into Supplemental Income Sources
Finding additional income may be necessary to offset benefit cuts. While working a traditional job isn’t always feasible for those on disability or with limited mobility, there are alternative ways to earn.

- Freelance Work and Gig Economy: Consider online freelance work, such as writing, transcription, tutoring, or virtual assistance. Websites like Upwork and Fiverr offer flexible options.
- Selling Unneeded Items: Selling items you no longer need can bring in extra income and help declutter your home.
- Exploring Passive Income: For those who can invest a small amount upfront, passive income streams such as a small investment or creating digital products (e.g., e-books or artwork) might generate ongoing revenue.

5. Tap into Community Resources
With anticipated cuts, community resources like nonprofits, food banks, and local government programs may become even more valuable.

- Connect with Support Organizations: Reach out to nonprofits like AARP, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), or community centers. These organizations often offer various support services, including financial counseling, food assistance, and help with healthcare.
- Community Health Clinics: For those worried about healthcare costs, local health clinics may offer free or reduced-cost care.

6. Adjust Healthcare and Insurance Plans
Changes to Medicare and Medicaid could make it essential to evaluate your current healthcare options.

- Medicare Advantage Plans: For Medicare recipients, comparing Medicare Advantage plans can help find options with lower out-of-pocket costs or more coverage.
- Prescription Assistance Programs: Many pharmaceutical companies and organizations offer programs that provide discounts or free medications to those with limited incomes. Check if your medications are covered by any of these programs to help reduce costs.

7. Keep Up with Legislative Changes
Staying informed about proposed policy changes and potential cutbacks will help you understand what’s happening and adjust your plans accordingly. Some organizations and news outlets offer email newsletters focused on Social Security and Medicare updates.

- Contact Your Representatives: Engaging with elected officials and advocating for these programs can also make a difference. Legislators often take note of the concerns voiced by their constituents, especially when it comes to widespread public policies.

8. Consider Low-Cost Housing Options
Housing is often the largest expense for low-income individuals. If cuts make it difficult to cover rent or mortgage payments, it may be worth considering alternative housing options.

- Senior Housing: Many communities offer affordable housing options specifically for seniors. Contact local housing authorities to learn about waitlists and eligibility.
- House-Sharing: Sharing housing costs by living with family or friends can reduce financial stress and offer mutual support.

The Emotional Impact and How to Manage It

Financial insecurity brings more than just logistical challenges; it also affects mental health. Anxiety, stress, and fear about the future are common reactions. It’s essential to seek support networks, whether through friends, family, support groups, or counseling services.

- Mental Health Resources: Many communities offer free or low-cost mental health services, including counseling and support groups.
- Practice Stress-Relief Techniques: Techniques such as mindfulness, breathing exercises, and engaging in hobbies can help alleviate stress and improve resilience.

Conclusion

Potential cutbacks to programs like Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, SSDI, and SSI would bring significant challenges for low-income individuals, especially the elderly, disabled, and veterans. While no one can fully prepare for all the effects of these cuts, taking steps to create a solid budget, explore supplemental income options, and tap into community resources can help minimize the impact.

Although these times may feel uncertain, remember that you’re not alone. Building a support network and maintaining a proactive approach will help you navigate the road ahead, regardless of the challenges these cutbacks may bring.
